Waymarked Trails – GPS tracks for long-distance hiking & cycling

reviews, infos, tips, know-how – in-depth, authentic!

Long-distance hiking and cycle touring is popular! Some great examples for hiking are the popular "Camino Francés" in Spain, the "Munich to Venice" trail in the Eastern Alps or the lonely "Grande Traversata delle Alpi" (GTA) in the Italian Alps! Cyclists may love the "Danube Cycle Path" in Eastern Europe or one of many other trails in Europe.

GPS devices, digital maps and GPS tracks (GPX files) are a great help for these activities: At home for planning, on the trail for navigating.

But where do I get GPX files for my next project?

Have a look at the website waymarkedtrails.org!

Waymarked Trails offers informations and track downloads for many popular (and not so popular) routes, especially in Europe.

Waymarked Trails helps you finding a trail for different activities:

  • Hiking
  • Cycling
  • Mountain biking
  • Inline skating
  • Horse riding
  • Winter sport slopes

Waymarked Trails – How to

Quite simple: choose the activity, move the map to the desired region, click on "Routes" (bottom right), move the mouse to one of the routes (turns yellow in the map), click the route in the list and download the GPX file by clicking the "GPX" button.

The GPX file can be used in Garmin BaseCamp for planning (use a free OpenStreetMap as map) and you can copy it to your GPS device for navigation. But be careful, the quality of the track might not be the best!
